December 5, 1999So there I was...in Los Angeles for a business trip...an entire
day to myself... 70 degrees in December, and no clouds in the sky...a Chrysler Sebring
convertible rental car...what ever shall I do?? Road trip! 2 hours later, I'm in San
Diego...
Back HomeFirst stop...Home Sweet Home. I lived in San Diego for about 3 years,
while I was in middle school ('86 - '88). I was amazed at how much I remembered. Before I knew
it, I had spent a good 2 hours just driving around...it was fun! (Of course, enjoying the great
weather in a nice convertible didn't hurt, either!)

Here's our house...If I remember correctly, it used to be dark brown and had iceplant
instead of those bushes on the right. |

A nice shot over the valley at the end of Corazon Place - just a block from home. Lake
Hodges is out there, somewhere. |
CoronadoThis was our favorite beach spot. Unfortunately, I didn't get any nice
pictures, but it sure was beautiful. I started at the Coronado bridge, which is on the north
side of the bay, and drove south along the beach to the famous Hotel Del Coronado. I took a walk on the pier
at Imperial Beach, which was great. So, from the southern end of the bay, the only way back is
to drive back north to the bridge. I guess I'll just have to enjoy the convertible some
more...(darn)
US-1I took I-5 from LA to San Diego, so I decided to take US-1 back to LA.
Sure, it would take a bit longer, but I wanted to get as much of the Pacific Ocean as I could.
Little did I know how good of a choice that was... It was a real nice drive along the ocean. As
I approach Huntington Beach, I realize that I've timed this perfectly. The sun is about to
set...

Surf's up! |

I'm at the end of the pier here - the sun's getting lower... |

The sun dips below Catalina Island. I ate dinner at Chimayo restaurant, which is right on
the beach...what a view! |
|
What a day! This is literally the first time I've taken pictures on a trip. It
was just a disposable camera, but (I think) they turned out great. A digital camera is
definitely on the way...
So how do I end a story like this? Well...Here's a try: This was the first convertible I ever
drove. It was so much fun that I decided that it
shouldn't be the last time I drove a convertible...
